September 2009
Talent will out
Many people have commented on Charlie Covell’s wonderful performance in Oscar & Jim. That’s not all she can do. On Monday 21st September Charlie is performing her stand-up act in the final of Funny Women 2009. It’s at the Comedy Store, Piccadilly Circus W1 and you can book tickets on the website. See you there.
A Day at the Graveyard
A very nice thing has happened to Oscar & Jim. Somebody has written a song for us/about us/inspired by/adjacent to us. Not just somebody but in fact, recording artist Pimpernelle, aka the Mogul, aka A.K. Benedict. The song is called ‘A Day at the Graveyard’ and it completely gets Oscar & Jim and actually, totally rocks. We have a heard demo and are, at the moment, at the choked up/deeply touched stage. Other stages will follow but we don’t know what they are - having never had a song written and performed and recorded for/about/inspired by/adjacent to us before. Pimpernelle, thank you.
Child labour
Still the summer holidays drag on. We have two bored children here so I have put Frances (8) to work addressing poster tubes for Oscar & Jim Executive Producers. Here she is doing a nice job in the ‘A’s.![]()
First the worst
First Prize, Best Short sounds pretty good doesn’t it? And it looks pretty good too (I’m off to the framers tomorrow morning - I haven’t had a certificate to frame since my bronze lifesaving badge). But here’s the thing. Only the Grand Prize at RIIFF is Oscar-qualifying. So near… we’ll just have to get into some more fests and win some more prizes (strangely enough the latter, for Oscar & Jim is proving easier than the former - we just got knocked back by London and Raindance, both of which hurt). Ah well, nobody knows anything.![]()
