High Society
Oscar and Jim is off to Newport, Rhode Island, or possibly Providence - anyway we are an “early acceptance” for the Rhode Island International Film Festival, August 4 - 9. It’s classed a ‘biggie’ by withoutabox (the online festival clearing house) and the short competition is an Academy Award qualifier. We can’t allow yourself to get excited about this… and then we go ahead and get excited anyway. It’s wonderful to have a US premiere in the diary - many thanks to George T. Marshall and his team of reviewers - we are all thrilled that the movie ‘travels’.
(Newport was, of course the setting for High Society… I’m more of a Philadelphia Story man myself).
Formidable!
Strange sensation of receiving an O&J postcard in the mail. Postmarked France and with a one word review of the film - but no signature. Who is this anonymous fan?![]()
Bryanston vs Geneva
Two more screenings - to 120 sixth formers at Bryanston and to a swish bookclub of Geneva ladies, hosted by Joanna Georgiou and set up by our Swiss Exec Genevieve Keeley. Two very different crowds and I was surprised to find myself quite nervous - especially at Bryanston. But the film stood up pretty well in both places. Reactions are different and laughs come in different spots but with every successful screening confidence ticks up - both for Oscar & Jim and the next Anchovy production.

That’s how many folks have seen the O&J trailer on YouTube. We’re a little back of Susan Boyle’s 100 million views (I liked Andrew O’Hagan’s piece in the LRB) but hey, it’s a start.
