Another life
Reading at the Soho Theatre. We’re an actor short until the night before when Chris Harper agrees to do it. He and Charlie nail it. It’s pleasurable agony to watch and relief when people laugh in the right places (almost as good when they laugh in the ‘wrong’ places). Afterwards I talk to the magnificent Diana Quick, who is friend of Oscar and Jim (she saw it at HighTide). ‘It’s just a shame’ she says ‘it can’t have any other life beyond this’. This is when I first seriously think about making the film.
